Integrations Architect at FiscalNote
Washington, DC, US
You will be critical in unlocking the potential of a diverse, large, and growing number of datasets and functional features for our flagship products.  You will build and own integration solutions primarily using MuleSoft's Anypoint iPaaS tools while collaborating with other cross-functional R&D team members.  This position has a strong emphasis on API design using the OpenAPI Specification, as well as full SDLC of custom integration connectors and critical data access services.

About the Team

FiscalNote strives to connect the people of the world to their governments.  As part of a late-stage startup with numerous acquisitions, our new Integration Engineering team directly realizes this mission by connecting FiscalNote's broad portfolio of government data, AI insights, and user workflow features together for the benefit of our users across multiple products.  As the "middle" of the feature stack, we work hand-in-hand with frontend, data, and product teams for every project, with the broadest technical view of the FiscalNote platform.

About You

You relish the opportunity to have a real impact on the functionality of products that users and internal stakeholders rely on, in the work you do every day.  You thrive in collaborative environments in which continuously evolving and building product needs serve as the catalyst for innovative technical solutions.  You're capable of communicating your ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences and incorporating others' ideas and feedback.  You are excited about solving complex, open-ended problems by distilling the complexity as simply as necessary to build solutions that scale and are maintainable with minimal effort.

What To Expect In This Role:

    • Lead definition and scoping of technical solutions from both Product-led and Engineering-led project requirements, evaluating options and their tradeoffs
    • Design and define API interfaces and integrations across the FiscalNote suite of products, datasets, and services
    • Own complete lifecycle of delivery including architecture, design, documentation, development, peer review, test, and iteration of integration solutions, middleware services, and data migration tasks
    • Support, develop and expand upon critical new capabilities in the FiscalNote platform, always with an eye on the future
    • Collaborate with multiple other R&D functions (Engineering, Product, QA, Data, etc) to ensure team cohesion and consistency of solutions
    • Select and leverage platforms and best-of-breed tools to accelerate the company's technical development and delivered value

What Sets You Apart:

    • MuleSoft Developer certification or several years of MuleSoft Anypoint Studio development experience; or equivalent iPaaS tool
    • 5+ years experience implementing backend or middleware systems, and their APIs
    • 5+ years experience with one or more object-oriented or scripting programming languages (esp. Java, Python, Ruby, or Javascript)
    • Working knowledge of Git
    • Have led architecture design discussions for significant parts of a complex integration architecture involving multiple backend services/datastores and/or multiple frontend clients
    • Ability to break down user experiences from functional requirements and translate them into multiple options for a technical solution, determining the decision-making trade-offs with little to no guidance
    • Experience designing generalized data models or APIs from the combination of multiple specialized data models
    • Familiarity with debugging and monitoring a service-oriented architecture through logging and system state dashboards
    • A love for APIs and crafting reusable software components, with the vision and drive to make them the right way
