About the Role
CQ Roll Call seeks an individual to join the team that chronicles federal legislators while monitoring a large dataset of information on their offices, elections and biographies. The position requires exceptional accuracy as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet firm deadlines. Strong collaboration is a must, as the individual would work with team members to ensure comprehensiveness and accuracy of CQ Roll Call content as well as others in the newsroom to produce members’ related content.  
Additional responsibilities include the timely and accurate production, publication and maintenance of various CQ databases, external data feeds and other content to provide CQ Roll Call with superior federal data. The job requires strong attention to detail, thoroughness and an understanding of Congress and the legislative process.

You Will: 
Research, write and fact-check biographical and congressional data, elections outcome information, and district information on the federal level
Quickly and accurately manage the collection, coding and publishing of federal legislators’ staffing information, as directed by the editor
Write profiles, obtain biographical and other data and research client questions
Politely respond to and act upon newsroom questions or requests for information in a timely manner
Maintain an awareness of congressional politics and monitor events in Congress for changes in biographical information
Demonstrate an understanding of operational tools, procedures and troubleshooting
Work with editors to build professional skills while contributing to the larger newsroom's news gathering efforts
Cultivate relationships with congressional sources and government agencies for informational, journalistic and document source purposes and help colleagues do the same
Contribute ideas about product priorities and what data may need additional quality control as well as ideas about how to improve operations
Provide subscribers with complete, timely coverage of error-free, quality information within set deadlines and consistent with CQ Roll Call style
Develop an understanding of the CQ Roll Call databases and the procedures for updating that content
Successfully develop knowledge of CQ Roll Call products and legislative procedures
Consider a task complete once he or she has confirmed the content's successful posting to CQ.com or other specified CQ Roll Call product
 
To Succeed in this Role you'll have: 
One year of experience with the federal or state government, politics, legislative policy or Capitol Hill
Experience with large amounts of data entry
Knowledge of congressional procedure and an understanding of journalism practices
Attention to detail and good organizational abilities
Ability to work a schedule that largely mirrors the House or Senate calendars
Ability to meet strict deadlines
Flexibility to work extended hours as needed
Familiarity with Congress and the legislative process and knowledge of congressional operations, procedure and policy making. Experience with Congress is preferred.
Ability to develop sources, gather information, write and produce content consistent with CQ Roll Call style
Basic knowledge of HTML, the Internet, Microsoft Office (including Access) and electronic media
